GREAT POWWOW!

I know I've been slow about putting things up lately, I'll try to do better.
The veterans powwow at seven circles last weekend was one of the best we've had around here for quite a while. The weather was okay, except that it got a little hot saturday afternoon ( I heard 95!) It started with three drums, including a good one from the Chicago area, then later a fourth showed up.
The opening color presentation was very well done and moving, with many flag bearers, including two eagle staffs, and two complete honor guards. When the grand entry came, it was amazing how many dancers showed up. I don't know the number saturday afternoon, but that evening they counted 71 regalia dancers. Around here, that is astounding.
There was also a good number of spectators, and many of them joined us in the circle on intertribals.
They had exhibitions from all style dancers except men's fancy and jingle (there was one fancy dancer there that evening, but I don't know where he went).
That evening the temperature dropped amazingly fast, and the drums started drawing moisture, so we had to quit early, but it was still fine.
Sunday they had a member of the Tuskegee Airmen there to give a talk, plus more great dancing. I hope this is a good sign for the future!
The Black Fox drum will be singing this saturday in Pontiac at the 4H grounds at a benefit powwow for an ill lady who has been a big part of the local native community. Try to be there, it starts around noon, and goes till 5 or 6.
No practice this Friday, but we hope to be at Mt. Pisgah the next weekend.
I just read a great book on the battle of Little Bighorn, I'll talk about it later.
