Bald Eagle Days and upcoming events

I was out of town all weekend, so I missed Bald Eagle Days, but the Black Fox drum went and sang there saturday. We seem to have had a good turnout, and everyone who went says it was a great time. The drum sang a lot of good songs, there were a number of dancers, and a nice size crowd watching. There was a can line ( I wish I had seen that, I have never seen one) that performed, and also a live country band. Not exactly your usual powwow. I had thought there would be an evening session, but they shut everything down by six. That's all I really know, but thanks again to Fred Warbonnet for inviting us.
There isn't a lot going on this time of year, but we will have practice next friday ( feb. 3rd) at Ellen's house, and the drum will be going in to the women's prison on feb.18th and the men's on march 18th. Also we will perform at the Marigold nursing home in Galesburg on march7th.
That's all I really have for now.

Great times at knox

We had a great performance at knox college sunday evening.

We had close to twenty people from our group showup, the best we have had for quite a while. Close to a hundred people came to watch, and they all stayed for the whole 90 minutes. They really semed to enjoy it too.
We sang a lot of good songs, including a grand entry, flag, veterans, intertribal, and prayer song. We demonstrated a number of dances, a sneakup, straight, ladies traditional, grass, fancy shawl, round, and a crowhop. I would especially like to thank David Frisby for coming back to give us a grass dance Thanks Dave!
We also talked about traditions, the songs and the dances. A number of people stayed behind to ask questions, then we all went over to the gizmo, the cafeteria, and they fed us for free. All in all, a great show and a great time.
I would like to remind everyone that the black fox drum is going to sing at the bald eagle days gathering at the high school in Hamilton,Il. at noon on saturday, the 21st. We weren't going to be there but Fred Warbonnet, the head dancer, really wanted us. We were VERY flattered. Because of this, the practice on friday has been cancelled, but I assume we will practice next tuesday.
As I have said, if you want me to post anything, just let me know. Also you can make comments on the page. This blog is a work in progress, so bear with me.

A PERFORMANCE AND SOME NEWS

This a slow time because of the holidays, and of course few powwows in winter. We do have a performance on sunday, jan 15, at Knox college in galesburg. We are going to talk about tradition, sing some songs (including a variety of kinds), and demonstrate several types of modern powwow dancing. This is from 7:00 to 8:30, in the arts biulding. We are also taking the drum into the women's prison on feb 18, and the men's on march 18, but I will talk about that later.
The Black Fox drum has been having some great practices lately, both fridays and tuesdays, and we are sounding better than ever, if I do say so myself. Dinah brought in a guest last friday, a great retired lady from Wyoming named Jo. She seemed very interested in what we do, and she grew up near the Arapahoe rez so could bring a different perspective (although there is NO WAY we are going to try to sing like those northeners do).
We all talked to Scott on the phone friday, and Ruth is going (or is gone, I forget) out to California to be with him and Rosa and the baby. Scott is getting out soon, and Rich already has him lined up for the drum.
That's all I can think of right now, I will let you know how the thing at Knox college goes.
