Abingdon, Chillicothe, etc.

We didn't have a lot of people at Abingdon saturday, but those of us there had a good time and the people enjoyed us. Actually, the people running it seemed surprised how many of us did show up. They apparently expected only a couple of people. We sang a lot of songs, and some of us were in regalia, the people liked that.
The first weekend in August there is a powwow at Prophetstown, some of us might go, there are so few around now.
The last weekend in august, of course, we will be a drum for the mini powwow in Chillicothe. This year there's only going to be afternoon sessions, from 12 to 5, no evening session, so try to be there by 10:30 or so to give plenty of time to get ready.

Finally, this speaks for itself:

The Associated Press

ST. GEORGE -- The popular Land Hill petroglyph site has been vandalized again.

Federal officials are offering $500 for information leading to the identification of people involved in scratching "Bad Habits" into a panel of ancient rock art.

The vandals left other panels doubly damaged, including a rendering of a big horn sheep.

The Bureau of Land Management believes the defacing occurred between June 1 and June 16.

Land Hill is part of the Santa Clara Reserve -- 6,500 acres of public land -- managed by multiple government agencies, which protect the archaeological sites. Some of the rock art in the area is more than 5,000 years old.

In May, the BLM reported Land Hill petroglyphs were scratched with the names "Ty," "Thomas," "Linda 2006," "Shanna" and "Brittney (heart) Steve." The agency said the damage cannot be permanently repaired.

I'm still here

I've been so busy I forgot to put anything up for a while, but I'll try to be more regular for a while.
Some of us went into the men's prison saturday, and things went pretty well. There wasn't a huge group, but a fair number showed up, although like always a number left after the first hour or so. The prisoner singers are getting quite good, considering how limited their practicing is.
This saturday some of us are going to the park downtown in Abingdon to do something. Anyone who would like to help out is more than welcome. It's from around noon to four, or whenever we decide to quit, near the totem pole, a block east of the highway.
Also, of course, don't forget the mini powwow at Chillicothe the last weekend in August.
There's something strange going on, someone is apparently trying to destroy the seven circles for some reason. I don't have any idea who it is or why they're doing it,or how serious they are. In fact, I really don't know anything about it, but I just wanted people to be aware of it. You may get or have gotten emails from them, or about them. Personally, I intend to stay out of it.

some things coming up

We've got a few things coming up soon. First, of course, practice this friday at Ellen's.
We go into the men's prison July 14, be there by 11:00.
Some of us are going to be performing in Abingdon on the 21st, in the park on Main St. across from the totem pole. We're not really sure what is going to be involved, we're just going to have fun, but we could use all the help we can get. It's from 12 to 4, or around there.
Of course, we have the powwow in Chillicothe the last weekend of August, thats saturday and sunday.
Then we have more possibilities in September and October than we can fit in, we'll talk about them and decide.
I'm still hearing rumors that Pimitoui may not be back next year, I sure hope they manage to put it on.

I'm sorry I haven't put anything up lately, I've been been really run ragged. I'll get something good up soon.
